Beginning Sewing I: From the StartThe ever popular Project Runway television program proves without a doubt, that a little imagination and know how, you can learn to sew...imagine being able to complete alterations or sew an outfit just the way you like it. Take this class and be in control of you own fashion statement. This class is designed for novices and those who want to return to sewing and want an update on techniques. The focus is on basic techniques, sewing terms, fabric selection, reading a pattern, pressing techniques, notions and operating a sewing machine. You will work on a garment to develop your skills and then go on to more advanced projects. Hands on class. |

Introduction to SewingContinue building your skills in this class. Seam finishing, hems, zippers, facings, pockets, darts, waistbands, buttons and buttonholes are all necessary techniques for finishing a garment or costume. These basic techniques will be used over and over again in clothing construction. You will learn the steps that the pattern instructions omit, and gain the skills to make high quality garments in an indepth way. Introduction to Basic SewingIf you cannot attend a regular Beginning Class (as part of the five week series), plan to attend this class to learn how to get started in sewing a project in one night. This class will cover the basic sewing machine techinques, such as winding a bobbin, threading the sewing machine, sewing a straight seam and more. We will make a simple pillow case in class. Understanding Knit FabricsKnit fabrics are extremely comfortable to wear, they tend not to wrinkle, and care is quite easy. There is no mystery why garments are very popular; they are easier to fit than woven fabric. There are a more choices available in knit fabrics, and we find them irresistible to wear and would like to sew them without frustration. Learn how to sew them terrific fabrics, using your sewing machine, special presser feet, and a variety of techniques to make any kind of tee-shirt, dress or quilt. The class will teach you how to identify different knit types, gauge the amount of stretch, selecting the best sewing machine needles and thread. We will use the sewing machine and serger techniques. Know Your Serger / Get It Out of the ClosetNo matter which serger you own, you can do more than basic finishing seams. Your serger can roll an edge for scarves, table clothes, gather yards and yards of fabric for ruffles, craft projects and much, more. Make a Pattern from Ready-To-WearYou have a favorite skirt or perhaps a blouse you absolutely love and you can't find another one like it? Why not make a pattern from that garment and make a new one. It is not necessary to take the old garment a part. Camp Sew FunBobbin Winders are for kids 8-14 years old who have never sewn before. Bobbin Winders will learn the parts and operation of the sewing machine, threading, forward and reverse stitching, turning and pivoting, cutting fabric and pressing. Kit Fee required for this class. Sew Images Creative Sewing ClubKeep up to date with the latest techniques for your Sewing, Serger and embroidery machines. Come to the monthly Saturday meetings and learn about the latest in sewing resources, and share creative ideas and projects. Each meeting features a lecture and demonstration of specialized techniques. Hands on meetings may be scheduled for all sewers who want to practice or make a project. All sewers are welcome to join the club, even if you do not own a Bernina or Baby Lock Sewing Machine! Annual membership fee $50 pro-rated. Guests $15 per meeting. New Bernina or Baby Lock owners joins free for three months with the purchase of a new machine.
